Reversible jackets, reversible hats, reversible comforters...sure. But reversible toy boxes?

Really! Just flip the toy packaging inside out, put it back on and you’re wrapped and ready for the party. We think long and hard about how to B. helpful, useful, reusable – and beautiful – all at the same time.

We wanted to make it easy for mom to give a B. gift AND memorable for the recipient to receive it. So we did not stop at reversible. The ultimate owner also gets something to reuse. Once the toy is removed (and the clear plastic is recycled), the box becomes a sturdy fashionable tray to store treasures in.

For child. Or mom. Or, in my home, teenage daughter.

Have you received one of these boxes? What do you store in yours?

What the heck is that for???

We recently received an email asking what the plastic cone that comes inside our Pop-Arty! popbeads is for. The question brought up many interesting ideas around here:

  • Bury it in the dirt for a tiny swimming pool liner. Give the ladybugs a glam spot to hang out!
  • Attach paper wings and make a little craft angel.
  • Pour water in the bathtub.
  • Sort and count out the tiniest popbeads.
  • Use it on Wonder Woman's plane! (What use? Who knows? Let her figure it out. She’s Wonder Woman!)
  • Learn to trace circles.
  • Make a goofy sorcerer’s cap for a doll or stuffed animal.
  • Cut a hole at the bottom and use as a sand funnel.
  • Trap and observe an ant or spider. (Then let 'er go, of course!)
  • Balancing practice - put in on your head and walk across the room.
  • Enjoy an imaginary ice cream cone.
  • Make a mystical clear mountain for your Lego minifigures.
  • Make a tiny "glass" teepee. If you live in there, don't throw stones!
  • Use it as a fulcrum for a Barbie seesaw.
  • Use it as a target for Wheeee-mote Control.

But our #1 favorite use was: Make gnome-sized garden cloches to protect your tiniest plants. And, of course, a rain hat to protect that gnome! (See fig 1.1 and fig 1.2)

The real answer? To prevent rustling beads from scratching up the jar in transit. But when you’re absolutely finished doing alllll of this, pop it in the recycling bin. It’s #1 plastic so it has even more uses in its next life. It could even come back as Polar Fleece!

What uses have you thought of? Share, please!

Oh, the thousands of little decisions that go into the design (and manufacture) of a B. toy. [Or anything for that matter.]

Beyond the visible signature patterns and colors...we labor over the ‘feel’ in a child’s hand, the thickness of the plastic, the smoothness of a strap, the curve of a corner, the recyclability of our packaging, the size of the box, the meaning of each word, the kerning of the font. We really sweat these details. Wake up with them in the middle of the night!

Where possible the toys come with self-storage (the drum holds the instruments, the clinic roof houses the tools). We hate toys that leave a pile of trash as big as the toy itself when unpackaged.

And yet, when clear trash plastic is inevitable, we’ve paid extra for the most recyclable #1 PET plastic. And we've designed even the recycling symbol to be B.eautiful.

Durable: We hope B. toys are with you through multiple kids...and then nieces and nephews and friends you hand them off to.
Beautiful: We want our toys to be so pretty that you don’t have to hide them under the sofa when company comes over.
Useful: We make classic, open-ended playthings that encourage a child’s own stories to lead the fun.

That’s why Jessica’s simple doodle touched us so. Every minute of every day we strive to be in that intersection.

Thanks for sharing, Jessica!

Thank you Izze Soda!

You have no idea the magic you wreaked in the life of B. toys.

Right before the do-or-die presentation to Target, I saw these cases at Whole Foods. Had to have them. They matched our toys! The natural packaging, the charity message, the personality, the mission and vision of your brand.

Served you at the meeting (un-spiked, I promise). Sealed the deal.

I only hope B. can grow up to be like you. Naturally delightful.

These beautiful bags may not be what you think they are!

But they are a big part of our REDUCE • REUSE • RECYCLE mission.

And a way for us to help moms with clean-up and storage. :)
